LCS Names Tom Mathisen as Senior Vice President, Chief Development Officer
Jun 23 2026LCS has announced that Tom Mathisen has been named Senior Vice President, Chief Development Officer, effective October 1, 2026. In this role, Mathisen will lead the company’s development strategy, oversee new development opportunities, and support the continued growth of LCS and its client communities.
“Tom has been an instrumental leader in our development organization and has consistently demonstrated the vision, expertise and leadership needed to guide our development efforts into the future,” said Chris Bird, LCS President and CEO. “As part of our thoughtful succession planning, we are committed to elevating exceptional talent from within our organization. Tom’s deep understanding of the senior living industry, strong relationships across the real estate and capital markets sectors, and proven track record of execution position him well to lead this next chapter for LCS Development.”
Mathisen will succeed Chuck Murphy, Executive Vice President of Development, who recently announced his plans to retire at the end of 2026 after more than six years with LCS and a distinguished 40-year career in commercial real estate. Murphy will remain actively engaged through the end of 2026, partnering with Tom on the transition and supporting ongoing projects.
Since joining LCS in 2014, Mathisen has led numerous acquisition and development transactions while building key capital relationships that have supported growth. As Senior Vice President of Development since 2021, he has advanced the growth and execution strategy for The Delaney portfolio, LCS’s rental community brand. Mathisen has overseen all phases of development—from market selection and design to construction and capitalization—leveraging his institutional real estate expertise and collaborative leadership to expand LCS’s senior living portfolio.
Mathisen’s industry leadership also extends to serving on the National Investment Center Future Leaders Council and the Professional Development Committee of the LCS Foundation.
Murphy joined LCS in early 2020 and has played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s development strategy during a period of significant growth and transformation. Under his leadership, LCS Development returned to consistent profitability and delivered several years of record revenue while advancing notable projects, including Broadview at Purchase College and major community expansion initiatives at Sagewood and Trillium Woods.
“Chuck’s leadership has left a lasting impact on our organization, our clients and our development team,” said Bird. “We are grateful for his many contributions and appreciate his commitment to ensuring a successful transition over the coming year.”
